So here it is, almost September , almost Labor Day to be exact. And wouldn’t you know, here comes another hurricane to ruin the weekend. As of right now, east central Florida (where I live) is right smack dab in the bullseye. Right in the middle of the cone of uncertainty as they call it. Now I have been down here long enough to know that these storms can do almost anything at the last minute, so I am not going to get my feathers ruffled about it. And if it does hit us right here, well as my granddaughter said after going through two hurricanes in two years — “Nana, we “urvived” two hurricanes, so we will “urvive” the rest of them”. She was a bit younger then and that is how she prounounced “survive”, but I still say “urvive” because it was so cute when she said that.
They started out saying this was not going to get stronger than a Cat 1 if it even got that strong and the last update now says Cat 3. Believe me, there is a big difference! And as I said, these things have a way of changing at the last minute, but all of us here in Florida will have to listen to the apocalyptic “end of the world, you are all gonna die” hysteria from the local media. I will just laugh and resign myself to the fact that if it is my time to go, it is my time to go. I mean, none of us really have a choice on that matter anyway, now do we?
But seriously, I am as prepared as I can be. I always have disaster supplies here at my house, so I will just sit back and watch all the panic buying by all the people who, even though they live in hurricane country, never even have an extra can of beans.
On another note, the kids will be moving in with me on September 13th. My son in law got hired on at NASA and will start as soon as he is officially discharged from the Air Force. He still has two years of reserve duty and he got lucky enough to get Patrick as his reserve base. The recruiter told him that in the three years he has been doing this he has never seen a slot open at Patrick, so I think my son in law is pretty lucky. It is only about 20 miles from here. Otherwise he would have been going down to Homestead and that is 3 hours or so. Things have a way of working out. This wasn’t what I was going to write about earlier, but just figured I would let you all know I am fixing to “urvive” another storm. If it gets here it will be the 8th hurricane I have rode through. The 6th here in Florida. I feel like Cap’n Dan LOLOL (well, except for the man part!)
Have a wonderful day all
